Well, who was Prometheus?

In the history of Greek Gods, Titans, and the creation of mortals, Prometheus was the wisest Titan of all. His name means "forethought" and he was able to foretell the future.

Prometheus is credited with bringing enlightenment to humans. Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humankind, bringing the power of warmth and light to the dark and miserable earth.

Prometheus acted against the express wishes of the Olympian Gods, who wanted to keep the power of fire - enlightenment - for their exclusive use.

For this Zeus punished Prometheus by having him chained to a rock with an eagle tearing at his liver. He was to be left there for all eternity or until he agreed to disclose to Zeus which of Zeus' children would try to replace him. He was eventually rescued by Heracles without giving in to Zeus.

Prometheus was known as the protector and benefactor of mankind.

Why the Prometheus Project?

We are hoping to be able to foretell the future of what you want to learn about the Internet.

Our goal is to bring enlightenment to all those who join us. We give to you the benefit of our experience, bringing the power of knowledge to the great big thingy-m-jig they call the Internet.

We do not however act against anybody's express wishes in bringing this to you; we do however share secrets that are otherwise those of the computer nerds around the world!

We will not be punished like Prometheus as it is no longer legal to chain someone up and let an eagle attack them! Phew!

A quote to capture the moment...

"From women's eyes this doctrine I derive:
        They sparkle still the right Promethean fire;
        They are the books, the arts, the ademes,
        That show, contain, and nourish all the world."

William Shakespeare. Love's Labour's Lost.
