There are many places to look for mailing lists. There are links to some of them from our Resources page (check our home page when you are finished). For now we will look at CataList provided by L-Soft that allows you to search for any LISTSERV® mailing list. Below is a copy of the form from their search page.  Current search page at L-Soft

Say we would like to search for a list that deals with computer hardware issues, particularly equipment being down for repair (we could all do with some help on that one!). Let's start off easy and just search for the word "DOWN".

  • Leave all options as they are set
  • Type the word "down" into the text box headed Look for:

List search

This form allows you to search the database for lists whose name (XYZ-L), host name (LISTSERV.XYZ.EDU) and/or title ("Central America Discussion List") matches your search string. You can search for multiple topics by separating them with a comma. For instance, a search on "opera, classical" will return all the entries containing the word "opera" OR the word "classical". To search for a topic that actually contains a comma, type two commas in a row.
