To join a list, we need to SUBSCRIBE.
[Please keep in mind that the steps we follow are for LISTSERV® mailing lists, and while most mailing lists are similar, you must always check the directions for the particular software you are using to avoid unhappy surprises!]

SUBSCRIBE is one of many commands that mailing lists use to maintain a register of members.

All communication between you and the mailing list is by email. And commands are dealt with by automated processes.

To SUBSCRIBE to a list you need to send an email to the server asking to be included on the list.
