Now we need to add the SUBSCRIBE command to the message.
Just a few things you should be aware of before we send our request:-
- Return Address
- The email program will automatically use the return address that you have
entered in your Email program.
- (Hint: For Outlook Express check under Tools | Accounts -
select your email account and then click Properties. On the General tab look
at the Reply address.
- For Netscape Mail check under the Options | Mail and News Preferences menu. See Configuring Email from our Email section)
-
- Make sure that you have
yours set correctly. Oh, and if you send such a message from someone
else's computer, you'll have to change that setting or else you'll be subscribing THEM and not YOU!
- Signature File
- This is a feature of some email programs that allows you to automatically put
additional information at the end of messages when they are sent out.
If you are using this feature, it needs to be turned off as it can cause errors when sending commands.
It can be turned back on for posting messages to the list itself.
(Hint: Check under the Options | Mail and News Preferences menu. See Configuring Email from our Email section)
- Subject Line
- This should be left blank. It will not necessarily cause any problems, but some lists get
touchy if they receive additional information that they do not require.
- Some mailing list software now uses the Subject line for commands
instead of the body of the message. You must read your directions carefully
when subscribing!
So here is our message.
