Tips for Searching Jegsworks.com

Things to know about the search results:

  • Google custom search works only if the computer is connected to the Internet.
  • Results appear in a new window.
  • Results appear below a block of ads.
  • Recent changes may not appear in the results immediately.
Google must crawl the site first to find the changes.

How to search better:

  • Exact phrases: To search for an exact phrase, enclose your phrase with quotes,  like "Constitution of the United States". You can use this technique to reduce the number of results that are outside a particular part of the site, like "Working with Windows". Of course if a page has all of your search words and phrases on the page, it will show up in the results, even if it's not a page from the unit you meant to search.
  • Multiple word search: The search automatically returns pages that use ALL the words you enter in the textbox. If there aren't any, it lists pages that contain ANY of your words.
  • No capitalization: Searches are NOT case sensitive. So Book, bOOk, and BoOk are all the same.
  • Wildcards: Use an asterisk  *  to stand in for zero or more characters, like book*, which will return pages containing word like books, bookends, and bookkeeper, as well just plain book.

Use a question mark to stand for just one character, like book?, which will return only pages containing words that have just one more characters, like book, books, book1, BookA

  • Exclude words/phrases: You can exclude pages that also contain a particular word or phrase by putting a minus sign in front of the word or phrase. Entering book and -shakespeare would give you a list of pages that contain the word book but do not contain the word shakespeare. Be careful. The excluded word/phrase could be anywhere on the page, including menus!
